About This Coffee

Owned and operated by the Perez family, Finca La Hermosa is an award winning farm nestled on the slopes of the Acatenango Volcano in southern Guatemala. Having placed numerous times in the Cup of Excellence, the farm is reknowned for producing exceptional cupping coffees.

Born and raised amidst coffee farm and a parchment warehouse at home, Max Pérez always had the idea of starting a coffee business himself. Max is fourth generation of coffee producers in the Huehuetenango region. At 25 years old he graduated as a lawyer and married Claudia, his college classmate. Together in 2011 they established Finca La Hermosa to pursue their dream.

La Hermosa has altitudes reaching 2,100masl, volcanic soil rich in minerals, rainfall of 1,000 mm and an average temperature of 21ºC, which translates into one of the best microclimates in the world to produce specialty coffees.

The Region

Finca La Hermosa is located in Acatenango, Chimaltenango which is a valley located about 80km from Guatemala City, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. The weather variables of this region and the characteristics of the soil have a unique effect on the balance of the chemical components within the beans. This unique combination of conditions is reflected in the final cup; our origin QC team find Acetenango coffees stand out on the cupping table due to their unique sensory characteristics.

Acatenango is definitely a blessed region, home to great farms, tasteful coffees and dedicated coffee growers who love and enjoy what they do. No wonder why it is one of the only two denominations of origin in Guatemala that have been recognized to protect outstanding coffee regions.

The farm is divided in thirteen plots in full production, featuring traditional varieties as pache, typica, caturra, red, yellow & pink bourbon and catuai, as well as pacamara and gesha.

The Process

The commitment to processing excellence at finca La Hermosa begins with harvest. Cherries are hand picked based on Brix measurements of 24-25°. Drying is carried out on raised beds with regular turning and ample ventilation and takes 20-25 days on average.
